The Senior Clinical Nurse Manager plays a crucial role in guiding the nursing team towards achieving excellence in patient care. The Senior Nurse Manager is accountable for the administration, growth, and leadership of the nursing service, ensuring it aligns with modern standards and produces effective patient outcomes.

This role necessitates a blend of clinical proficiency and managerial skills to efficiently coordinate the activities of the nursing team. The Senior Nurse Manager will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to integrate nursing with broader healthcare operations, championing high standards in patient safety and care quality. The position entails significant patient interaction, clinical responsibilities, and administrative management, ensuring a holistic, patient-focused approach to nursing within the organization. The Senior Nurse Manager will also guarantee compliance with infection control and safety protocols.

Job Duties

Clinical and Operational Leadership:

  • Team Oversight: Manage nursing personnel, including recruitment, scheduling, professional development, and performance evaluation to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.
  • Clinical Governance: Establish and uphold clinical governance frameworks to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, including infection control protocols and clinical audit standards.
  • Policy Formulation: Direct the creation and revision of nursing policies and procedures, incorporating best practice guidelines into daily clinical operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all nursing-related regulatory requirements are met.

Patient Care:

  • Specialized Nursing: Deliver direct patient care utilizing advanced nursing skills, particularly in chronic disease management, emergency response, and preventive healthcare.
  • Care Coordination: Facilitate effective patient flow and care coordination within the practice, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Health Promotion: Lead initiatives aimed at promoting health, educating patients on disease prevention and healthy living.

Quality Improvement:

  • Service Enhancement: Initiate quality improvement projects to bolster patient safety, experience, and care outcomes. Systematically evaluate practice services and implement necessary enhancements.
  • Audit Engagement: Conduct and facilitate clinical audits, utilizing findings to refine clinical practices and patient care protocols.
  • Feedback Utilization: Leverage patient and staff feedback to improve clinical practices and service delivery.

Infection Control:

Adhere to stringent infection control measures, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and hand hygiene protocols.

Educational Leadership:

  • Training and Development: Design and implement training programs for nursing staff and other healthcare personnel, ensuring all team members are current with the latest clinical practices and technologies.
  • Mentorship: Provide mentorship to nursing staff and healthcare assistants, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the practice.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Resource Management: Efficiently manage nursing resources, including medical supplies and staffing, to align with practice requirements.
  • Documentation Oversight: Supervise documentation processes within the nursing team to ensure all patient records are accurate and compliant with legal standards.
  • Collaboration: Regularly participate in practice meetings, sharing insights and coordinating with healthcare professionals to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Extensive nursing experience, including advanced practice skills in primary care settings.
  • Proficiency in managing a variety of clinical scenarios, including chronic disease management, emergency response, and preventive care.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, capable of managing and developing a nursing team.
  • Experience in clinical governance and implementing quality improvement processes within a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multidisciplinary team meetings and patient consultations effectively.
  • Strong capabilities in conflict resolution and in building a cohesive team.
  • Proven ability to efficiently manage resources, including staffing, budgets, and medical supplies.
  • In-depth understanding of current healthcare regulations and legal guidelines affecting nursing and patient care.

Desirable:

  • Prescribing qualification.
  • Additional certifications in areas such as diabetes education, palliative care, or minor surgical procedures.
  • Experience in public health nursing, promoting community health initiatives and programs.
  • Engagement with clinical research, particularly in studies focused on improving patient care and nursing practices.
