Job Overview

The Ministry of Defence employs a substantial number of Civil Servants, with the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) comprising a dedicated workforce of approximately 7,000 personnel across numerous locations. Our team encompasses a variety of roles, including trainers, human resources professionals, educators, psychologists, and financial experts, all contributing to the Army's operational success.

Role Focus

As the Army's lead on ceremonial matters, the successful candidate will serve as a pivotal member of a specialized team, acquiring in-depth knowledge of Army ceremonial practices, honors, and dress codes. This role involves collaborating with various tri-service and government stakeholders to establish oneself as the Army's Subject Matter Expert (SME) and policy advisor on all matters related to Army medals, awards, ceremonial attire, and associated items.

Working alongside colleagues, the individual will engage in comprehensive staff and committee activities, utilizing diverse communication methods to uphold the Army's ceremonial standards and ensure the appropriate selection of uniforms and attire, thereby maintaining the Army's esteemed reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Secretary for the Army Medal Board (AMB), addressing appeals from Army Service Personnel regarding service awards, including the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (LS&GCM), Voluntary Reserve Service Medal (VRSM), and Cadet Forces Medal.
  • Act as the Secretary for the Army Dress Committee (ADC), coordinating meetings and managing records related to changes in Army dress regulations.
  • Oversee the project to transition Army dress to the new Sovereign's crown and cypher (Project TUDOR) and manage requirements for various Army accoutrements.
  • Function as the tri-service policy focal point for flag and national saluting protocols, including gun salutes.
  • Handle Parliamentary Questions (PQs), Freedom of Information Act (FOI) requests, and other inquiries regarding Army honors and ceremonial dress.
  • Author and support the development of Army General Administrative Instructions (AGAIs) and relevant sections of Kings Regulations (Army).
  • Provide guidance and assistance for Defence Major Events.
  • Manage administrative staff within the PS12 team and serve as the primary business continuity lead for all PS12 responsibilities.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated and highly organized, capable of coordinating activities effectively across the team.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with individuals at all levels, including military and civilian personnel.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritize a dynamic workload with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in IT, with familiarity in Office 365 systems being advantageous.

Desirable Attributes:

Candidates should possess an understanding of the Army's historical and operational structure, including knowledge of the uniforms worn by various Regiments and Corps.
