Job Title: Public Affairs and PR Manager

Location: Remote (Hybrid)

Salary: Up to £52,500

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Affairs and PR Manager to join our team at the Chartered Association of Business Schools. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive public affairs strategy that promotes our members' interests and enhances our reputation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Public Affairs:
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement a public affairs strategy that aligns with our organizational objectives.
    • Design and execute public affairs campaigns to support policy and regulatory changes that benefit our members.
    • Advocate for policy and regulatory changes that benefit our members, particularly in higher education policy.
    • Raise the profile of our organization and the Small Business Charter through strategic external engagement and lobbying activities.
    • Identify and respond to policy consultations, calls for evidence, and inquiries from government bodies and regulators.
    • Maximize the impact of consultation responses, securing policy changes and recognition for our organization.
    • Engage politicians, stakeholders, and funding bodies using our research and reports.
    • Draft briefing notes for politicians and stakeholders on relevant higher education and small business policy issues.
    • Raise member awareness and engagement with our public affairs and research activities.
    • Develop and implement measurement mechanisms to evaluate the success and impact of our public affairs strategy.
    • Act as a spokesperson, representing our organization at meetings, events, and conferences.
    • Monitor and evaluate legislative and regulatory developments to identify opportunities for our organization and the Small Business Charter.
  • PR:
    • Lead the development of UK media thought-leadership campaigns for our organization and the Small Business Charter.
    • Plan and deliver timely and comprehensive reactive media responses and materials.
    • Produce communications materials such as press releases, articles, videos, and social media content.
    • Build strong relationships with journalists and stakeholders to influence media coverage and enhance our reputation.
    • Provide communications counsel and advice to senior management and Council/Board members.
    • Create thought-leadership and interview opportunities for senior representatives on relevant topics.
    • Generate PR opportunities around our research, reports, events, and other programs.
    • Oversee media monitoring, both traditional and social.
    • Develop measurement mechanisms to evaluate the success and impact of PR activities.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in public affairs and PR, with a strong understanding of the higher education sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective public affairs and PR strategies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong understanding of policy and regulatory developments in the higher education sector.
