This position offers a distinctive chance to serve as a Senior Forensic Psychiatrist within the Community Forensic Psychiatry team, which is tasked with overseeing individuals diagnosed with mental health disorders within the criminal justice framework. This includes those who have been conditionally released from restrictions, primarily residing in supported accommodations. The Senior Forensic Psychiatrist will deliver psychiatric expertise, guidance, and leadership to the Community Forensic team.

Key Responsibilities

The individual in this role will be expected to collaborate with other senior healthcare professionals as required.

The responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical leadership and specialized knowledge to a designated multidisciplinary community forensic mental health team.
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments and clinical management of mentally ill offenders aged 18 and above referred from the local area.
  • Offering medical support and guidance to the prison inreach team for adults of working age.
  • Delivering medical consultation and advice to Forensic nurse practitioners and Criminal Justice liaison personnel.
  • Advising on transitions to the High Dependency Rehabilitation Unit from Low and Medium Secure Units.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to service management by participating in relevant committees and meetings, engaging in audits, and assuming specific management roles as agreed upon.
  • Actively participate in the education and training of medical, nursing, and other personnel.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development and participate in the Wales Revalidation Process, including annual appraisals for revalidation purposes.
  • Engage in the consultant on-call rota within the Mental Health Directorate.
  • Fulfill responsibilities under the Mental Health Act as a s.12 approved doctor and as an Approved Clinician.
  • Adhere to the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
Essential
  • Full GMC Registration.
  • S.12(2) approval.
  • Approved Clinician status.
  • On the Specialist Register for Psychiatry or nearing completion of training with anticipated CCT/CESR.
Desirable
  • MRCPsych or equivalent.
  • Additional relevant postgraduate qualifications.
  • Relevant clinical qualifications.
  • Welsh Approved Clinician status.
Experience
Essential
  • Extensive training and experience in psychiatry.
  • Advanced training experience in psychiatry.
  • Endorsement in Rehabilitation Psychiatry.
Desirable
  • Experience acting as a Responsible Clinician.
Management Skills

  • Experience in management and administration.
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff.
