Job Overview

Fire Alarm Engineer Position

Fortus Recruitment is a leading recruitment agency specializing in placing professionals in the repairs and maintenance industry.

We are currently working with a Local Authority to find a skilled Fire Alarm Engineer to join their team.

The ideal candidate will have experience in installing and repairing fire alarm systems, as well as a strong understanding of British Standards BS 5839 and BS 5266.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide routine maintenance and repairs of fire alarm systems
  • Respond to emergency callouts and perform necessary work
  • Conduct site surveys and asset verification
  • Install new equipment and perform upgrades
  • Participate in the on-call rotation
  • Train apprentices and provide guidance
  • Ensure all work is performed in a professional and diligent manner, considering the needs of the client
  • Service, maintain, and install fire alarm systems, as well as emergency lighting systems and other associated equipment
  • Complete engineer service reports and report any deficiencies or deviations
  • Conduct regular van stock checks and maintain communication with the Engineering Technical Supervisor and Procurement Department
  • Adhere to Health and Safety protocols and report any potential risks or issues
  • Strive for a first-time fix whenever possible

Requirements:

  • Good understanding of British Standards BS 5839 and BS 5266
  • FIA Level or equivalent certification
  • At least 1 year of industry experience
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills
  • Able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with opportunities for overtime and additional compensation
  • A full UK driving license
  • Previous experience with fire alarm systems and knowledge of analogue addressable and conventional systems
  • FIA training (or equivalent) to BS5839-1 Fundamentals
  • Strong IT literacy and understanding of Health and Safety Regulations
