Position Summary:

Wastewater Fuels Ltd is a pioneering enterprise, established to innovate in the field of wastewater treatment and renewable energy. Our patented Microbial Electrolysis Cell (MEC) technology is designed to convert wastewater into hydrogen gas, providing a sustainable energy solution.

This technology is engineered to generate more energy than it consumes, making it a net energy-positive solution. By optimizing materials and operational efficiencies compared to traditional wastewater treatment methods, our approach aims to enhance energy security, promote green energy, and significantly lower carbon emissions across various sectors including municipal wastewater management, agriculture, humanitarian efforts, military logistics, and recreational activities.

As a Laboratory Technician, you will become an integral part of our expanding team, contributing to innovative research and development initiatives.

Your Responsibilities:

As a member of our multidisciplinary research team, you will engage in collaborative efforts to meet shared objectives. Your typical responsibilities will include:

  • Designing experiments utilizing electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
  • Conducting material characterization through methods like scanning or transmission electron microscopy, EDX, Raman, and FTIR spectroscopy.
  • Electroplating catalyst alloys and compounds.
  • Identifying innovative opportunities by reviewing scientific literature to enhance our intellectual property.
  • Processing and analyzing data effectively.
  • Communicating research findings to the CTO, Chief Engineer, and the broader team through detailed reports and presentations.

Qualifications and Skills:

We seek candidates who possess the following qualifications (requirements are in bold):

  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • A degree in Electrochemistry or Electrochemical Engineering is essential. A postgraduate qualification is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in electrochemical methods (this may include postgraduate studies).
  • Familiarity with experimental design for electrode characterization and electro-catalytic processes.
  • Experience in electrodeposition of coatings or catalysts.
  • Prior experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of materials synthesis, nanotechnology, or related materials science techniques.
  • Experience in bioelectrochemistry or microbiology is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
  • Experience in the development and characterization of separators or membranes.

Compensation and Benefits:

Reporting to the Research Team Manager, this role offers:

  • Annual remuneration ranging from £23,000 to £26,000, plus pension benefits.
  • A holiday allowance of 25 days, in addition to bank holidays and a Christmas shutdown.
  • A standard working week of 37.5 hours.
  • Additional benefits including share options.
