Job Purpose

As part of a well-defined educational framework, enhance the quality of student engagement by performing various teaching, evaluation, and administrative responsibilities, primarily at the undergraduate level, to deepen comprehension of essential course subjects and aid students in extracting significant learning outcomes from educational resources.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assist in the design, coordination, and execution of undergraduate educational activities.
  2. Conduct a variety of instructional and evaluative tasks aimed at effectively delivering course content at the undergraduate level.
  3. Engage in various administrative responsibilities related to the course, adhering to established timelines, which include effective dissemination of information, grading, assessment, and timely constructive feedback.

  4. Support the creation of suitable teaching resources, ensuring that the content and delivery methods align with the defined learning objectives.
  5. Contribute to the efficient application of educational technologies to enhance course delivery, organization, feedback, and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online instruction, utilizing platforms such as Moodle and other digital tools.
  6. Utilize specialized knowledge in teaching that effectively addresses the needs of individual learners and groups, ensuring an inclusive and evidence-based approach that fosters student engagement and achievement.

  7. Participate in the comprehensive assessment process employing diverse methods and techniques, including oral evaluations, and provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their educational journey.

  8. Assist in overseeing student projects, dissertations, and practical assignments, offering guidance on skills, methodologies, and techniques to facilitate knowledge transfer, while addressing the varied support needs of learners.

  9. Engage in ongoing professional development activities as appropriate.
  10. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the Head of School.
  11. Contribute to enhancing the University’s global profile in alignment with its Strategic Plan.

Qualifications A relevant Honours degree (SCQF Level 10) or demonstrated expertise in a pertinent field, along with an understanding of teaching, learning, and assessment principles.

Currently registered and progressing towards a PhD (MPhil/PhD) or PGT qualification in a relevant discipline.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

In-depth knowledge of the subject area.

Experience in delivering support to undergraduate or postgraduate students in various formats, including online, distance learning, or face-to-face settings.

Experience in supervising, mentoring, or instructing students in practical and interactive learning environments.

Relevant administrative experience (e.g., student support, course management, etc.).

Exceptional communication and presentation abilities.

Proficiency in utilizing IT and relevant software to support educational activities.

Demonstrated capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Ability to meet deadlines effectively.

Commitment to the University's stated values and professional standards.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be at Grade 6, ranging from £32,332 to £36,024 per annum pro rata. This position is offered on a fractional basis and is fixed-term.
