Lead Energy Systems Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Energy Systems Specialist to join our team at SP Energy Networks, a part of the Iberdrola Group. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a vital role in the development of engineering solutions that enable the dynamic control of our distribution system assets.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Participate in and direct cross-discipline transfer of expertise and knowledge with fellow Specialists and Engineers, interacting with other engineering experts/departments and holistic technical decisions.
  2. Perform department calculations, models, reports, and regulatory submissions with thorough attention to detail.
  3. Provide engineering oversight for complex ANM solutions, for example the integration of solutions into the everyday working fabric of the business.
  4. Represent SPEN's engineering position and interests at industry, regulatory and governmental policy level, aiding in securing favourable operating conditions and improving network reliability, security, resilience, and asset optimisation.
  5. Develop new models, techniques, and approaches to manage emerging Distribution System Operator (DSO) design challenges including roll-out of ANM CMZs, Flexible Connections, Flexibility, Real Time and Active Fault Level Management (RTFLM and AFLM) and increased network monitoring.

What You'll Bring

We are looking for an individual with:

  1. Extensive knowledge, expertise and experience of GB Power System, protection, control, and SCADA systems, supported by professional accreditation.
  2. Broad distribution system knowledge, facilitating support for key network design, planning, system integration and optimised use of the distribution network.
  3. An understanding of the DSO role, including the network, data and market changes required to enable wide-scale Flexibility and smart network operation.
  4. Strong track record of delivery of complex power system solutions across all distribution voltages.
  5. Experience of major UK design codes and standards, government policy and regulation.
  6. Effective engineering leadership, coaching, development, and support skills.
  7. Excellent technical communication through written, schematic, oral and analytic forms.
  8. Excellent presentation skills, including the ability to apply persuasive influence to drive decisions.
  9. Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse and demanding workload.
  10. Preferably, Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards this.
