We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist within our Forensic Healthcare Service. This position includes a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000, along with a potential relocation allowance of up to £8000. The payment structure is as follows:

  • £5000 upon appointment
  • £5000 retention payment at the 12-month mark
  • £6500 retention payment at the 30-month mark
  • £8500 retention payment at the 48-month mark

The Recruitment and Retention payment is prorated for part-time employees. For further details regarding the terms of the Recruitment and Retention Payment or the Relocation Allowance, please reach out to our Medical Staffing Team.

Main Responsibilities

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:

  • Be an integral part of the Leadership Team, collaborating with management to optimize resource utilization.
  • Enhance the provision and capacity of Forensic Healthcare Services while providing consultant responsibilities for a group of female patients in a low secure ward.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team, including senior nurses, social workers, psychologists, and occupational therapists, to deliver clinical leadership and ensure high-quality care.
  • Contribute to the planning and development of local Mental Health Services, actively participating in governance and service improvement initiatives.

Key Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Act as an Approved/Responsible Clinician for patients under the Mental Health Act, managing a caseload of 15 inpatients.
  • Engage in weekly referral meetings and assess candidates for admission suitability.
  • Collaborate with various agencies to manage mentally disordered offenders effectively.
  • Provide training to fellow professionals.
  • Participate in the on-call rota.
  • Foster a clinical leadership role within the multidisciplinary team and across the service.
  • Engage in business planning and contribute to the strategic objectives of the Trust.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at improving the quality of care.
  • Conduct assessments for prisoners requiring hospital admission.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable:

  • Higher degree or qualification in medical education, clinical research, or management.

Eligibility

Essential:

  • Approved clinician status or ability to achieve this within three months of appointment.
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or ability to achieve this within six months.

Desirable:

  • Good standing with GMC regarding practice warnings or conditions.

Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential:

  • Ability to make evidence-based decisions, incorporating input from others.
  • Competence in fulfilling duties under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Capability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Strong clinical skills with a comprehensive medical knowledge base.

Desirable:

  • Diverse specialist experience relevant to the role within the NHS or similar services.

Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning

Essential:

  • Ability to engage in participatory decision-making with service users.
  • Active participation in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in research or service evaluation.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Desirable:

  • Leadership in clinical audits resulting in service enhancements.
  • Experience in clinical research or service evaluation.
