About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our Projects and Mechanical Engineering (PME) group as a Mechanical Engineer Industrial Placement. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside our experienced engineers and scientists on a range of high-profile scientific projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the concept design of components, assemblies, and sub-systems.
  • Develop detailed designs of components and produce engineering drawings to BS:8888.
  • Procure components and materials.
  • Perform finite element analyses (Mechanical/ANSYS) and stress and thermal calculations.
  • Complete survey work, including the use of laser trackers and spatial analysers.
  • Support mechanical work, such as fluid flow calculations and magnet design.
  • Produce posters, papers, and presentations as required.
  • Work within our ISO9001:2015 quality system, incorporating continuous improvement.
  • Develop personal competencies through relevant training courses.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement.
  • Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year.
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement.
  • Able to commence employment in summer 2025.
  • Interest in science and/or engineering.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to understand and explain technical concepts effectively.
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office.
  • Good written communication skills.
Desirable
  • Enrolled on a related undergraduate degree course.
  • Any previous work experience.
  • Experience working in a team.
