Position Summary

As a CNC Machine Operator, you will report directly to the Shift Supervisor and be the first point of contact for any minor automated issues impacting CNC operations during your shift. You will also address challenges on the downstream line, including but not limited to SHL cells and straightening presses. As a vital team member, your responsibilities will include processing castings on-site while ensuring a safe working environment and striving for customer satisfaction by meeting high-quality standards. Experience with ABB robots, CNC machines, and straightening presses is essential, along with the ability to train operators to the required standards.

This role operates on a Permanent night shift from 10 PM to 6 AM, commencing on Monday night.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass, but is not limited to:

  • Ensuring a safe working environment
  • Maintaining production processes that conform to current quality standards
  • Manufacturing parts timely to meet customer demand
  • Seeking improvements in production processes
  • Collaborating with the team to investigate root causes of production downtime and implementing corrective actions
  • Operating CNC machines, recovering ABB robots from emergency stops, and managing all aspects of automated lines
  • Changing tools on CNC machines
  • Training operators on ABB robot operation and recovery from error states or emergency stops
  • Monitoring hourly performance, identifying shortfalls, and liaising with Production Supervision to report and escalate issues as necessary
  • Promoting the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental policies throughout the department and adhering to all relevant requirements
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Production Manager or Shift Supervisor.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Essential:

  • Demonstrated production experience in a die casting environment with CNC machines
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with 5S methodologies to enhance the production environment
  • Experience with straightening presses
  • Understanding of KPIs for performance tracking
  • Proficiency in ABB robot operation and programming

Desirable:

  • Experience in the castings sector
  • IOSH Qualification
  • Experience with Tier 1 automotive supply
  • CNC-specific training packages
  • CNC setting expertise
  • Experience in training team members
  • Basic understanding of OEE calculations and their driving metrics from the cell
