Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lairage Manager / Animal Welfare Officer to join their team at their Gloucester site in Cinderford, Gloucestershire.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the most progressive beef processing groups in the UK and Ireland.

The Role

As a key member of the production team, you will be responsible for coordinating operations in the lairage, including animal welfare, receipt of animals, movement of animals, communication with farmers and haulers, organisation of staff, and communication with department staff on site.

You will work closely with the production manager to ensure the smooth operation of the lairage and the welfare of the animals in our care.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with and handling livestock, particularly cattle, and a strong understanding of animal welfare standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate operations in the lairage, including animal welfare and movement of animals
  • Communicate with farmers and haulers to ensure smooth animal receipt and movement
  • Organise staff and communicate with department staff on site
  • Work closely with the production manager to ensure the smooth operation of the lairage
  • Ensure the welfare of animals in our care

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years extensive experience working with and handling livestock (cattle)
  • Knowledge of animal welfare standards
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Capable of motivating and leading the lairage team in a pressured environment
  • Ability to work in an efficient and safe manner
  • IT literate
