Job Title: Designated Social Care Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Designated Social Care Officer to join our team at Lancashire County Council. As a key member of our Inclusion Service, you will play a vital role in supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of social care and SEND legislative and procedural frameworks, ensuring services meet their statutory responsibilities under the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice 2015. You will be instrumental in promoting continuous improvement within Lancashire, forging relationships, sharing knowledge, and driving organisational change through collaborative working.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take a strategic lead in shaping and developing the social care elements of the SEND strategy across Lancashire.
  • Promote practice development within social care teams and agencies to meet the responsibilities outlined in the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Inspire and influence multiagency social care partners, fostering collaboration and developing practices to ensure the best possible outcomes for disabled children and young people in terms of their education, health, and social care needs.
  • Represent social care at key regional and national events and provide expert professional advice on SEND reforms related to social care.
Requirements
  • Deep understanding of social care and SEND legislative and procedural frameworks.
  • Proven track record of effectively engaging and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and social care teams.
