About the Role

The University of Exeter is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Technician to support the work of Professor Alastair Wilson in the Faculty of Science. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of evolutionary genetics of fish.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and delivery of experiments to collect behavioural data from fish and aquatic invertebrates in the laboratory.
  • Manage fish breeding experiments and assist with animal care and husbandry.
  • Prepare samples for genetic analyses and work closely with postdoctoral and student researchers in the lab.
  • Communicate research progress and outcomes, both orally and in writing, to various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • First degree in a related field of study or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with animals in a scientific context and ability to design and implement studies of animal behaviour.
  • Specific experience with fish would be beneficial, as would prior experience of working under Home Office license under ASPA.
  • Meticulous record keeping and excellent communication skills are essential.
