About the Role

We are seeking an ambitious and forward-thinking Product Development Technologist to join our team at Gates Corporation. As a key member of our Product Development group, you will be responsible for leading the identification and development of advanced fabric and adhesive technologies to drive our synchronous belt development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the identification and development of advanced fabric and adhesive technologies to drive our synchronous belt development initiatives.
  • Spearhead projects to identify and validate alternative materials, ensuring smooth and safe implementation using VAVE-CRB tools for efficient project management and approval processes.
  • Work closely with Gates Material Development groups globally, key suppliers, and external partners to transfer cutting-edge fabric and adhesive technologies to our Dumfries PDG.
  • Partner with Operations Teams to seamlessly integrate new fabric and adhesive technologies into our manufacturing processes.
  • Provide expert analysis and testing to benchmark fabric and adhesive technologies against competitor products, contributing to global synchronous benchmarking activities.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant quality standards (GQC tools, DIN/ISO9001, ISO16949) and departmental procedures, maintaining comprehensive documentation.
About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual with a strong background in chemistry, polymer/material science, chemical engineering, or a related scientific field. You should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in product/material development, manufacturing, or automotive industries.

Key skills and qualifications include:

  • Strong technical and analytical skills with a focus on detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
  • DFSS skills including Design of Experiments (DOE), DFMEA, SPC, Weibull, and other statistical tools.
  • Effective problem-solving, project management, and time management skills.
