Maintenance Engineer for Hub Operations

We are seeking a dedicated Hub Maintenance Engineer to enhance our Barnsley Hub Team. In this role, you will report to our Senior Engineer, who will delegate Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and project tasks throughout your shift. While facilities work is minimal, you will focus on the core engineering responsibilities.
Role Overview:
As part of a skilled team of Engineers, you will operate on a PANAMA shift pattern (2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off) covering both day and night shifts. Your primary duties will involve Reactive Maintenance and PPM within the Hub.
The Hub is equipped with advanced technology and systems, including:
- Beumer Sorters
- Interroll Sorters
- Carousel conveyors (EXPD, ASTEC, LAC)
- Caljan and Sovex boom Conveyors
- SEW MOVIMOT drives
- Profibus and Asi-bus systems
Once assigned your projects, you will have the autonomy to determine the most effective approach and proactively address complex challenges. Collaboration with external Engineers and participation in broader optimisation and Continuous Improvement initiatives may also be part of your responsibilities.
To be successful in this role, you should be a multi-skilled Engineer with a preference for electrical expertise. Experience in Fault Finding with PLCs is advantageous, alongside your 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification.

Qualifications and Experience:
- A qualification in an Engineering discipline (e.g., City & Guilds) or demonstrable experience and skills
- Essential knowledge and experience in Automation
- Electrical and mechanical understanding of Drivers, Belts, Motors, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Compressors, Dock Levellers, Roller Shutter Doors, Bar Code camera/scanner systems, and General Maintenance Equipment.
Familiarity with:
- Siemens PLCs (Hardware & Software)
- Programming Units
- Interbus S field networks (Hardware & Software)
- Distributed I/O systems
- Computer Architecture
- SCADA Systems
- Electronic field devices
- System Control Hierarchy
Key Responsibilities:
- Minimize downtime on Mission Critical Equipment through swift response and effective practices
- Implement and uphold the Company Safety Policy and procedures, ensuring compliance among staff
- Act on requests from the Senior Engineer or Engineering/Site Manager
- Communicate effectively with Operational management, Machine Minders, and other stakeholders
- Assist in planning and specifying frequencies for planned maintenance, ensuring adherence to schedules
- Oversee and coordinate external contractors on site
- Stay informed of technical advancements relevant to Hub operations, making recommendations to the Senior Engineer or Engineering/Hub Manager as needed.
