Lead Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry
2 months ago
Position Overview
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering expert psychiatric care to individuals engaged with the East Conwy Community Mental Health Team (CMHT).
All incoming referrals to the community team are processed through a centralized access point. A daily meeting is held to determine the most suitable clinician to attend to each referred patient. This meeting includes senior representatives from both primary and secondary care teams, with a consultant present each day.
The appointee will be expected to adhere to the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.
Depending on the availability within the training rota, the position may involve oversight of a junior doctor.
Key Responsibilities
The appointee will conduct specialized psychiatric evaluations, treatment, and management for adults aged 18 and older suffering from severe and persistent mental health conditions in East Conwy. The consultant will provide medical support to patients under secondary care CMHT as requested by the care coordinator and will also offer consultation and guidance to Primary Mental Health Services within their designated area.
The service is designed to be needs-driven, thus the consultant will be responsible for managing patients over the age of 65 until their requirements can be more suitably addressed by the Older Persons Mental Health Services (transition arrangements are currently under review).
The consultant will be integrated within the CMHT and will collaborate with the county manager to ensure effective clinical leadership of the multidisciplinary team. Additionally, the consultant will assist in the clinical supervision of the team and is expected to contribute to the training of team members in clinical practices.
The service employs an Acute Care Model, with two dedicated inpatient consultants overseeing newly admitted patients. These inpatient consultants also manage patients from the Home Treatment Team. The consultant will work in partnership with the Acute Care Services, with a designated session in the job plan for consultation with the Acute Care Service. In instances where one of the acute care consultants is unavailable, the other consultant will assume overall responsibility for inpatient care.
