Position Overview

Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Senior Psychiatrist specializing in Older Adult care. This role is integral to our comprehensive Older Adult service, which encompasses various aspects of mental health support, including inpatient care, crisis intervention, psychiatric liaison, and community mental health services.

The successful candidate will take on a leadership role within our newly established Bluebell Ward, designed specifically for older adults requiring focused mental health treatment. This 12-bed facility is undergoing enhancements to ensure that each resident enjoys a private, en-suite accommodation, tailored for individuals aged 65 and above.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Psychiatrist, you will:

  • Lead and develop a pioneering service, collaborating with both existing and new team members.
  • Oversee a group of older adult patients with functional mental health challenges, managing admissions and facilitating discharges.
  • Enhance the connection between the inpatient ward and the Crisis and Home Treatment Teams, ensuring seamless patient care.

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • A medical degree (MB BS or equivalent) and a specialization in Older Adult Psychiatry.
  • Experience in inpatient settings focused on older adults.
  • A strong understanding of research related to older adult mental health.
