JOB OVERVIEW

Wood is seeking a Senior Principal Technical Safety Engineer to take on a pivotal role in our engineering team. The ideal candidate will lead discipline initiatives and serve as the primary contact for the design contributions of the overall project team, focusing on planning, scheduling, and executing discipline tasks and deliverables, including manhour estimation when necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Overseeing discipline activities to align with project timelines and manhour budgets, including personnel requests as per the project plan, and supervising sub-discipline staff on a daily basis. This encompasses the approval of timesheets, holiday requests, and overtime where applicable.
  • Evaluating the Basis of Design (BOD) and the Project Execution Plan (PEP) to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Serving as the discipline approver (and originator when required) for all Technical Safety outputs (e.g., philosophies, calculations, studies, reports, specifications, datasheets, drawings, etc.), adhering to all relevant operational protocols.
  • Collaborating with various disciplines to prepare and develop deliverables, ensuring integration of inputs from other areas.
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant specifications and compliance with applicable national and international regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Communicating with Project Management and Clients, providing updates on work status, challenges, and requirements.
  • Reviewing and approving vendor documentation as it pertains to the discipline.
  • Providing technical information to the Purchasing and Estimating Departments for cost and availability assessments of Technical Safety equipment and materials.
  • Conducting quality assurance checks on the project in accordance with Project, Company, and departmental standards.
  • Supervising and ensuring that engineering and technical personnel receive adequate oversight of their work to maintain quality standards.
  • Implementing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and safety protocols related to the Technical Safety Department.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Extensive experience in the Design HSE field across all project phases (i.e., Feasibility, Concept, Pre-FEED, FEED, and EPC) within the Energy Transition, Oil & Gas, Refinery, and/or Petrochemical industries.
  • UK Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Preferably a Chartered Engineer and a member of a recognized engineering institution.
  • Significant expertise across all Technical HSE sub-disciplines (i.e., Process Safety, Fire Protection, Environmental, and Human Factors) with a strong understanding in two or more areas.
  • Familiarity with 2D drafting and 3D CAD modeling processes.
  • Proficient in software relevant to the discipline (e.g., PHAST, FRED, Safeti, Shephard, FLACS, FlareSIM, Detect3D, Pipenet, PHA-Pro, etc.).
