Job SummaryCora Partners is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Gardener to oversee the maintenance and development of our historic estate in Ascot, Berkshire. As a key member of our estate team, you will be responsible for managing a team of gardeners, overseeing garden improvements, and ensuring the highest standards of horticultural excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Garden Maintenance and Development
- Oversee the maintenance and development of the estate's gardens, including the formal gardens, woodland, and wildflower meadow.
- Implement seasonal maintenance plans and ensure the gardens are presented to the highest standards.
- Team Management
- Manage a team of 13 gardeners, providing guidance, training, and supervision to ensure the team is working efficiently and effectively.
- Develop and implement staff training programs to enhance the team's skills and knowledge.
- Project Management
- Work with the Estate Manager to develop and implement projects to improve the estate's gardens and grounds.
- Coordinate with external partners and specialist consultants to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.
- Administration and Budgeting
- Develop and manage the annual garden budget in consultation with the estate accounts team.
- Oversee the procurement of plants, materials, and equipment for the estate's gardens.
- Client Liaison
- Provide regular updates and briefings to clients on garden developments and maintenance.
- Coordinate with the household team to ensure internal floral displays and plant maintenance are of the highest standard.
- 7-10 years of experience in a senior position at a private estate or public garden.
- Comprehensive plant knowledge and woodland management experience.
- Relevant horticultural qualifications and experience.
- Operational knowledge and experience of garden machinery.
- Intermediate level IT skills.
- Full driving license.
- A separate cottage on the estate.
- A competitive salary of £50,000, plus discretionary bonus.
