About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Policy Researcher to join our team at the University of Oxford. The successful candidate will have a strong background in development economics and a passion for understanding the impacts of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) on societal outcomes.

The postholder will have the opportunity to engage with a large community of researchers at the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE) and contribute to a research project investigating the rollout of Fayda, Ethiopia's new MOSIP-based digital ID system.

The ideal candidate will have a Graduate degree in economics, public policy, or development studies with a focus on development economics or politics, and excellent quantitative research skills. They will also have experience of conducting research on developing economies, ideally on Africa.

The postholder will report to Professors Stefan Dercon and Christian Meyer and will be encouraged to take on increased levels of responsibility over time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent quantitative research on the impacts of DPI on societal outcomes
  • Engage with the research community at CSAE and contribute to the development of the research project
  • Develop a research portfolio and take on increased levels of responsibility over time

Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in economics, public policy, or development studies with a focus on development economics or politics
  • Excellent quantitative research skills and experience of conducting research on developing economies
  • Strong writing skills and ability to communicate effectively to academic and non-academic audiences
