About the Role

Carrington West is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Transport Planner to join our team. As a Graduate Transport Planner, you will play a key role in supporting a team of experienced professionals in delivering high-quality transport planning services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Client Needs and Stakeholder Engagement: Understand the needs of our clients, the requirements of stakeholders, and the opportunities and constraints associated with a development project.
  2. Planning Process and Policy Documents: Understand the planning process and key policy documents, including the National Planning Policy Framework, Planning Practice Guidance, Local Transport Plans, Decarbonisation Strategy, and Gear Change.
  3. Data Collection and Analysis: Assist with data collection, including traffic counts, travel surveys, census data, and GIS mapping. Undertake accessibility reviews to understand the opportunities for people traveling to/from a site to use active and sustainable travel modes, and prepare figures to communicate this clearly.
  4. Transport Modeling and Analysis: Estimate the trip generation of a development proposal, the likely mode of travel, and the distribution and assignment of trips across the transport network. Use industry software to model junctions and assess the impact of traffic changes on capacity.
  5. Report Writing and Communication: Prepare reports, including Access Appraisals, Travel Plans, Transport Assessments, and transport chapters for Environmental Statements.
  6. Collaboration and Communication: Work directly with clients, architects/planners, highway authorities, and develop positive working relationships. Ask questions, take notes, and critically review the information provided to identify possible solutions for discussion with the project manager.
  7. Business Development and Networking: Get involved in business development activities, such as the use of LinkedIn and attending networking events.
Requirements
  1. Education and Qualifications: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent skills/interest in transport planning.
  2. Analytical and Technical Skills: Strong analytical skills and proficiency in quantitative analysis and data presentation (ideally including the use of Excel and ArcGIS).
  3. Personal Qualities and Commitment: Personal drive and a commitment to learning and professional development.
  4. Driving License: A driving license is preferable.
