Nottingham, Nottingham, United Kingdom Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time

This role is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new hires who are external to the Trust. This will be disbursed in three installments over a two-year timeframe. This incentive is applicable only to new employees who do not currently hold a contract with the Trust. Additionally, this position includes paid enhancements for working during unsocial hours, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

We are seeking dedicated Speech and Language Therapists eager to join a collaborative team and enhance their expertise in addressing a diverse array of speech, language, and communication challenges (SLCN) across various environments such as clinics, educational institutions, and home settings.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate within a locality team to assist children, families, and educational settings in a specified geographic region.

Conduct assessments, diagnoses, and develop tailored care plans for children experiencing a variety of SLCN, including speech and language impairments, developmental language disorder, stuttering, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

We are dedicated to flexible and agile working arrangements, including opportunities to join our bank staff.

Your health and well-being are our top priorities, and we invest significantly in these areas through our in-house Occupational Health Service, Staff Counselling Service, and Health and Wellbeing Team.

If you share our values of Trust, Honesty, Respect, Compassion, and Teamwork, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Job Duties

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist eager to develop their skills in addressing a wide range of speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) in various settings.

The Speech and Language Therapy Service provides support for children with diverse speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) as well as eating and drinking challenges across the region. Our service offers a variety of care packages for children with speech and language difficulties, developmental language disorder, Autism, learning disabilities, physical challenges, eating and drinking issues, voice disorders, hearing impairments, and fluency disorders. We aim to provide assistance to children in the most suitable environments, whether that be health, education, or home.

Our department is relatively large compared to others nationwide, providing frequent opportunities for skill development. Our experienced therapists specialize in various clinical areas and are available to share their knowledge and support less experienced colleagues.

We operate in teams with a shared caseload, actively supporting new staff in building their confidence in managing cases, allowing for a gradual accumulation of skills and experience. This includes shadowing opportunities, continuing professional development (CPD), and time for case discussions as you enhance your abilities.

We welcome applications from individuals who are eager to:

  • Assess, diagnose, design, and implement suitable care packages for children with SLCN.
  • Collaborate with and provide training for parents, educational staff, and other professionals to ensure a well-coordinated support plan for eligible children.
  • Assist in identifying and managing children with SLCN as part of an integrated team and offer guidance to Speech and Language Therapy Assistants (SLTAs).

Essential Qualifications

  • Recognized Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent, or currently pursuing qualification.
  • An interest in and experience (including undergraduate) working with children and young people facing a variety of SLCN and eating and drinking challenges.
  • Experience (including undergraduate) in educational or pre-school settings with children exhibiting various communication difficulties.
  • Understanding of the Speech and Language Therapist's role in meeting the needs of children accessing community clinic services and/or educational settings.
  • Interest or experience in multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for business use is required; however, reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Why Join Us?

You will become part of the Specialist Services and Children and Young People Unit of Management, welcomed by a highly supportive and efficient team dedicated to delivering quality care.

A tailored local induction will be provided, along with an informal discussion with a service manager to share your journey and understand how your values align with ours.

As you acclimate, you will receive regular, meaningful clinical and managerial supervision, along with an appraisal within four months of starting to identify how we can support your professional growth.

You will have access to both internal and external training opportunities, along with a comprehensive range of employee benefits, including:

  • 27 days of annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing up to 33 days based on NHS service).
  • Pension scheme.
• Flexible working and job-sharing options.
  • Promotion of a healthy work-life balance.
  • Salary sacrifice schemes, including public transport loans and cycle schemes.
  • Staff discount programs and discounted leisure center memberships.
  • Free on-site parking (subject to location).
  • Extensive health and wellbeing initiatives, including Occupational Health, Physiotherapy, and Staff Counselling services.
  • Support for caregivers.
