Key Role in Software Development

Backend Software Engineer

Discover is seeking a skilled Backend Software Engineer to play a key role in analyzing, developing, and designing solutions for our application software. In an Agile environment, you will be responsible for technical design, coding with test automation, and documentation of software application modifications. Your focus on continuous integration, development, and testing will ensure the delivery of high-quality code. As a Backend Software Engineer, you will actively manage and escalate risk and customer-impacting issues to management.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops solutions for high-impact technology and business priorities
  • Proficient in multiple contexts, such as programming languages, security, automation, testing, and business domains
  • Participates in strategic technology decisions impacting Discover
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates issues based on experience in multiple domains
  • Coaches technology communities at Discover

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Java programming technology
  • Knowledge of cloud-based technologies such as AWS, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, and OpenShift
  • Strong automation mindset for testing and build/deploy concepts
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Github Actions, Chef, Ansible, and Nexus
  • Ability to collaborate with business and product owners
  • Expertise in Java8, Spring boot API Dev, and domain-driven design
  • Strong understanding of REST Web Services, JSON, and Design Patterns
  • Experience with Agile engineering teams and relational databases
  • Skills in high availability and scalability design and performance monitoring
  • Understanding of messaging systems like MQ, Kafka, or Kinesis
  • Experience with multi-threaded and synchronization applications
