Carriera is pleased to collaborate with a reputable building consultancy seeking a Building Regulations Surveyor to lead the implementation of updated building regulations and play a pivotal role within a newly formed team.
This team has been established in response to the revisions made to the Building Regulations 2010, aiming to fulfill the responsibilities of 'Principal Designer (Building Regulations)' across various internal departments while also exploring new external opportunities to assist other firms and clients with their obligations under the Building Regulations.
The recruitment of a Building Regulations Surveyor is essential to enhance the team's expertise and provide a dedicated professional to execute the Principal Designer role from a Building Control perspective, complementing the existing team members who approach the role from a Chartered Building Surveyor background. The department has established procedures for both Higher Risk and non-Higher Risk buildings and is currently fulfilling the Principal Designer – Building Regulations role throughout the organization. In the short term, the focus will be on project delivery rather than process establishment, although ongoing improvements will always be considered to optimize efficiency.
Work will primarily take place within Greater London, although there may be occasional projects outside of London, typically within the South of England. Some travel beyond London may be required from time to time.
Key Responsibilities:
- You will report directly to your team leader/Director and assist in achieving their objectives for both the team and the broader department. Your work will largely be self-directed (from instruction to billing), and you will be expected to competently manage all phases of the instruction.
- You will collaborate on larger projects alongside senior management staff. Your assignments will stem from inquiries from the Senior Management Team, your direct team leadership, and existing clients. You will be encouraged to generate work at this level, and your ability to market and network will be advantageous. Activities may include attending networking events, contributing to CPD presentations, and promoting via marketing channels.
Candidate Requirements:
- Applicants should be proactive and self-motivated. Experience in the role or a comprehensive understanding of the Principal Designer - Building Regulations role is essential. Additional skills and attributes beneficial to project delivery will also be considered.
- This position is open to experienced Building Regulations Surveyors. Chartered Building Surveyors demonstrating competence will also be considered, provided they understand that the current focus is on delivering the Principal Designer role.
- Possession of an accredited degree or NVQ, along with evidence of further training and relevant experience.
