About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Regional Technician to join our team at the RNLI. As a key member of our Coastal Maintenance Team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of our search and rescue assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis, and defect repair on boats and launching equipment across the Southwest Region.
  • Conduct trials of existing and repaired equipment, requiring excellent mechanical and electrical knowledge.
  • Develop and implement solutions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our search and rescue operations.
  • Collaborate with Lifeboat Station Mechanics, Lifeguards, Contractors, and other technical staff to achieve shared goals.
  • Participate in the roll-out and assessment of new equipment, staying current with the latest technology and innovations.
Requirements
  • A minimum Level 3 NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC, or equivalent in a mechanical engineering discipline, including electrical elements.
  • A completed time-served apprenticeship in a marine or vehicle-based engineering position.
  • Excellent IT skills and a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • A full driving licence and the ability to work out of hours, including occasional travel and nights away.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a first-fix approach to returning search and rescue assets to service.

  • A competitive salary in the region of £28,334 to £33,334 (dependent on experience).
