About the Role

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Associate to join its Office of the General Counsel (OGC). The successful candidate will provide legal assistance and support to OGC counsel across a range of matters, both in terms of substance and complexity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist legal advice in a multi-disciplinary team to protect the Bank's interests and ensure compliance with internal policies.
  • Support legal teams within OGC, particularly the Sustainable Finance Governance and Regulation Unit, by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal and policy documentation.
  • Conduct legal research, as instructed by counsel, in areas such as climate governance, sustainability regulation, and natural resources.
  • Assist counsel in carrying out sector-specific or team-wide activities.
  • Perform tasks set out in paragraph (b) without counsel's involvement on a discrete number of less complex and/or lower risk matters.
Requirements
  • A law degree from a leading university and a postgraduate law degree from a leading university, or equivalent work experience.
  • Normally not less than three years' prior work experience as a lawyer in private practice or a comparable working environment.
  • Experience in sustainable finance and reporting, climate governance, and/or natural resources, particularly mining, would be desirable.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, enabling drafting and negotiation of legal documents.
  • Excellent project management skills, ability to monitor and follow up on many activities concurrently under time constraints.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to explain legal matters and provide guidance in resolving legal issues.
