Job Overview

The Welsh Government prioritizes housing as a critical area of focus. The regulation team operates on behalf of the Welsh Ministers, aiming to safeguard tenants and substantial public investments within the housing association sector across Wales. Effective regulation is essential to maintain the sector's appeal to private investors, whose contributions complement grants for the establishment of new social housing in Wales.

The structure supporting the regulation function is currently evolving. This position will play a vital role in the ongoing transformation and enhancement of regulation, overseeing the management and secretariat functions of advisory and assurance groups that bolster the regulatory framework. Additionally, the role will deliver business support to the Housing Regulation team while also engaging in strategic and policy-related aspects of regulation.

The Regulation Business Support Manager will report directly to the Senior Regulation Strategy Manager.

Key Responsibilities

The Welsh Government anticipates the following from the successful candidate:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage personal and team workloads effectively, ensuring objectives are achieved within set timelines and standards, utilizing initiative and sound decision-making while managing risks appropriately.

Team Expectations

  • Independently handle daily issues, which may include providing guidance to senior staff and supporting policy, digital, legislative, or operational development initiatives while serving as the primary official engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Oversee the management of individuals or teams, including supporting team members with complex cases, managing work distribution and prioritization, and being responsible for performance management, coaching, mentoring, and the development of staff from various backgrounds to ensure they reach their full potential. Foster a culture of inclusion by ensuring that development opportunities are accessible to all.
