Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic physiotherapist to join our team as a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist. This is a leadership role that requires a strong background in respiratory physiotherapy, with a focus on pulmonary rehabilitation and integrated respiratory care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of pulmonary rehabilitation services, ensuring high-quality care for patients with chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Provide advanced assessment and treatment of stable and acutely ill patients with chronic respiratory problems, including those with complex presentations.
  • Supervise and teach physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants, and students in the care of patients with respiratory problems.
  • Provide skilled team leadership and operational management, implementing policy changes and setting standards of practice.
  • Initiate and participate in evidence-based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and leading departmental research and audit.
  • Undertake specialist assessments, carry out diagnostic procedures, and interpret results for patients with multifaceted respiratory and/or rehabilitation problems.
  • Formulate, evaluate, and reassess individualized physiotherapy management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning skills and a wide range of treatment options.
  • Provide advice on specialized physiotherapy care and treatment for patients with respiratory problems, based on theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance, clinical risk, and the use of treatment plans with an evidence-based link.
  • Maintain accurate written records using the POMR system and the computerized patient data system, and supervise team record keeping.
  • Demonstrate physical ability to carry out physiotherapy assessment and interventions, including manual physiotherapy techniques and therapeutic handling.
  • Keep up to date with clinical developments, analyzing current research and discussing and implementing changes in clinical practice accordingly.
  • Use specialist knowledge to refer to other health disciplines as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate highly developed dexterity, coordination, and palpatory sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients.
  • Participate in the on-call and emergency duty rotas as a lone practitioner within the Trust.
Requirements
  • HCPC registration and degree in physiotherapy.
  • Evidence of CPD relevant to respiratory physiotherapy.
  • Leadership and/or management training.
  • Significant experience at Band 6 level in a broad range of settings, including critical care, surgery, medicine, and rehabilitation.
  • Experience in the physiotherapy management of COPD and other chronic respiratory disease.
  • Significant MDT working experience.
  • Experience of managing/supervising band 5 or 6/students/PTI/PTA.
  • Experience of teaching/contributing to in-service training, including to MDT.
