Job Summary
As a key member of the Colt Technology Services leadership team, the Global Head of Design and Engineering will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's technical strategy and driving innovation across the business. This senior leadership position will oversee the development and implementation of cutting-edge design and engineering solutions, ensuring Colt remains at the forefront of the industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of subject matter experts in various engineering disciplines, driving technical optimization and system efficiencies across the organization.
- Collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including clients and suppliers, to explore market trends and new technologies, ensuring Colt's Data Centre Designs meet evolving market needs.
- Develop and maintain the Colt Global Reference Design (GRD), serving as the technical authority on hyperscale facility delivery worldwide.
- Manage a team of reports within the Global Engineering team, guiding the Colt DCS Engineering team towards future success.
- Support the Global Senior Development Director in achieving successful outcomes on all matters.
- Provide guidance, management, and assistance to other engineering and commissioning teams, site management teams, and operations on all matters related to Colt DCS design.
- Own the Colt DCS Global Reference Design (GRD) and update it continually to meet the latest industry and business requirements.
- Work with vendors and suppliers on the latest technology, industry trends, and undertake R&D on potential new equipment in line with the GRD and Direct Procurement strategy.
- Align with other functions to improve processes and communications.
- Deliver engineering support to ensure Colt utilizes optimal technologies and designs on the most cost-effective (TCO) basis available in the market.
- Drive value creation from supply chain partners.
- Liaise with customers on requirements and translate into solutions to win business and improve relationships.
- Technical lead on Direct Procurement to select appropriate vendors.
- Implement and standardize Colt's highest standards of cost, quality, and programme control throughout the design and build phases of multiple projects in multiple countries.
- Work with other functions and end users/customers to ensure the product and design remain up-to-date and suitable.
- Analyze design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Drive standardization across the design to impact costs, speed, and quality of work.
- Coordinate and direct the integration of technical activities to achieve business goals.
- Be the technical matter subject matter expert for the business, conveying ideas and concepts to senior stakeholders, both internally and externally.
- Review equipment failures and diagnose faulty operations, ensuring lessons learned are documented and reviewed for future projects.
- Challenge the knowledge base of today to ensure improvement for tomorrow.
- Collect and analyze data relating to operating efficiency of installed systems and equipment.
- Undertake technical training to the remainder of the Real Estate team or wider business.
- Ensure timely resolution of issues and deficiencies and develop and implement contingency plans to mitigate business risk.
