Liver Health Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Hepatology Team at St George's Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as a Liver Health Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing a fibroscan service for Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), outpatient/inpatient Hepatology, and cross-covering the CLHC and viral hepatitis team projects.
Key Responsibilities- Perform fibroscans for patients referred directly by their GP to the CDC, according to established pathways.
- Perform hospital-based fibroscans both within clinic settings and the ward.
- Complete other patient diagnostic tests for people identified as at risk of liver disease, including blood tests.
- Work across South West London in the Mobile Hepatology Clinic and in various outreach locations.
- Perform basic clinical assessments and provide basic clinical information, following pre-defined protocols after training and successful competency assessment.
- Identify people/groups who would benefit from Liver Health Checks.
- Work with the Viral Hepatitis Team to provide Blood Borne Virus testing.
- Work with outreach and community settings to motivate and encourage staff to refer people for Liver Health Checks.
- Collect and maintain relevant data for local and national data collection requirements.
- Support the maintenance of the Fibroscan machine, including calibration of the probes.
- Experience working with patients.
- Experience of building effective working relationships and networks.
- Experience of working with a diverse range of people.
- Demonstrate the ability to deal with difficult and challenging situations.
- Knowledge and understanding of liver health.
- Good knowledge of a range of IT systems used within the trust.
- Knowledge of health inequalities.
- Experience of health promotion and harm reduction across diverse communities.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- Phlebotomy skills, such as venepuncture, capillary blood testing, dry blood spot testing, etc.
- Experience of fibroscanning.
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to learn new clinical skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel across South West London and work within a variety of community settings.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to changes in the service and demands of the role.
