We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Breeding and Research Manager to join our team at AgRecruit. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading our breeding activities and developing new rose varieties.

• Hybridizing
  • Develop and implement breeding strategies to improve the quantity and quality of our rose varieties.
  • Work closely with our experienced breeding team to learn and improve our current breeding strategy.
  • Contribute to the development of new breeding programs and suggest improvements to existing ones.
• Selection
  • Oversee the selection process for new rose varieties, from bench selection to commercial selection.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline the selection process and improve efficiency.
• Post-Introduction Trials
  • Manage trials to evaluate the performance of new rose varieties in different environments.
  • Provide reliable information to stakeholders on individual varieties and how to grow roses successfully.
  • Communicate trial results to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
• Genetics
  • Research the potential benefits of genetic techniques in rose breeding and implement them if deemed necessary.
• Range Improvement
  • Assess and improve our range of roses, including those not bred by us.
  • Oversee the trialling process for new varieties bred by other companies.
  • Evaluate existing rose varieties and make recommendations for improvement.
• Management
  • Lead and manage our breeding team to achieve our goals.

• Experience in leading breeding activities in a floral, botanical, or crop/agriculture background.
• Passion and enthusiasm for roses, plants, or plant science.
• Education to at least Honours Degree level in a relevant subject, such as plant science/research or genetics.
• Good problem-solving skills and commercial awareness.
• Ability to manage a busy breeding team and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Strong teamworking skills and analytical mind.
• Proactive, dynamic, and curious with the courage to challenge and innovate.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer literacy.
