Job Title: 3D AutoCAD Design Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled 3D AutoCAD Design Manager to join our team at Sewell Group. As a key member of our Design Management team, you will be responsible for overseeing the management and delivery of design information during both the pre-construction and construction phases of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Team Management: Manage the design team and consultant appointments throughout the course of a project in both the pre-construction and construction phase of a project.
  • Pre-Construction Phase: Interpret client brief and manage/assist in the production of the Contractors' Proposals, ensuring they are complete, unambiguous, have been reviewed by the Pre-con team and have been updated to include all pre-construction information and agreements.
  • Design Development: Lead / attend design focussed pre-construction project development meetings with the client and design teams.
  • Design Assessment: Assess pre-construction information and confirm gaps to inform strategy in developing the design. Confirm any additional information required to result in a complete de-risked design.
  • Designer and Consultant Responsibilities: Define and agree designer and consultant responsibilities to ensure there are no gaps in the design delivery of a project.
  • Design Review: Review design and suggest alternative approaches that may result in safe, compliant, buildable efficiencies in the design and build of a project along with value engineering opportunities.
  • Sustainable Design Solutions: Review design proposals and advise of sustainable alternative methodologies or materials resulting in a lower carbon impact.
  • Design Programme and Schedule: Produce, agree and manage, with all relevant parties, a realistic design programme and information required schedule to satisfy design, procurement and construction requirements.
  • Construction Phase Review: Manage construction phase reviewable design as a part of any contract ensuring the client expectations are managed throughout the process and designers present options within the set aside budget.
  • Design on Site: Manage the design on site, sometimes with the assistance of other site-based resource, by implementing the design management process to ensure the timely production of information is issued.
  • Sustainability Issues: Monitor agreed sustainability issues related to design. Ensure relevant BREEAM etc. certification is issued.
  • Project Team Guidance: Provide guidance to the Project Team on items related to design.
  • Design Deliverables: Ensure that all Design deliverables are reviewed upon receipt by the project team to establish they are within budget, in line with Contractors Proposals and are fully coordinated and are buildable.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Driving Licence: Hold a full driving licence, valid in the UK.
  • Design Experience: Previous knowledge and experience within a design role in the Construction Industry.
  • Building Regulations and Standards: Have knowledge and a good understanding of up to date Building Regulations, design standards and best practice such as British Standards, DFE standards including Spec21, Building Bulletins, Health Technical Memorandums, Robust Details, etc.
  • Design Development Routes: Have knowledge of the differing design development routes such as RIBA, Building Information Modelling and PAS 2038.
  • Initiative and Teamwork: Ability to work using own initiative but also as part of a close knit team.
  • Computer Literacy: Excellent levels of computer literacy, and be fluent in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Proactive Approach: Have a proactive attitude towards delivering construction works to a world-class standard.
  • Communication Skills: Hold excellent communications skills and the ability to liaise with senior clients & supply chain.
  • Organisational Skills: Possess good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a variety of tasks.
  • Positive Approach to Learning: Possess a positive approach to learning, development and progression.
  • Flexible Working Hours: Have a flexible outlook towards hours worked (some out of hours working may be required).
  • Health and Safety: Have working knowledge of current Health and Safety practice.
  • Common Data Environments: Prior experience of using Common Data Environments such as Viewpoint.
  • Professional Qualifications: Hold appropriate professional qualifications and/or chartership status.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

  • Local Authority and Public Sector Experience: Previous knowledge working with Local Authority, public sector, higher education and Blue-Chip commercial clients.
  • Sustainable Design Solutions: Have knowledge of, or be committed to developing knowledge of, sustainable and carbon reduction design solutions.
  • Mentoring: Be committed to mentoring the team to develop knowledge and approaches across the business.
