Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Night Shift Supervisor to join our team at Biffa Waste Services. As a Night Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the work of several operational teams, ensuring they work safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management: Monitor and evidence that collection and cleansing standards meet contractual obligations within Manchester City Council.
  • Team Leadership: Assist the Operations Manager with daily operational activities in an effective and efficient manner, and at all times complying with Biffa's policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Site Supervision: Assist the site supervisor in the day-to-day operations of the respective site in accordance with site licence, contractual conditions, and as directed by the Site Supervisor.
  • Health and Safety: Support the site supervisor with H&S requirements; compliance responsibilities in accord with GIMS, permit, planning, and other documentation; management of the site.
  • Waste Management: Segregation of waste to maximise the amounts that can be recycled.
  • Customer Service: Assist members of the public and other site users to deposit and segregate their waste.
  • Maintenance and Housekeeping: Perform basic maintenance and housekeeping duties to site equipment and facilities.
  • Site Traffic Control: Control site traffic and assist site users to ensure safe and efficient site use.
  • Security: Deal with unauthorised personnel illegally using the centre, i.e. through disturbing refuse, stealing, or carrying out unauthorised tipping.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain centre records as necessary to comply with licence, legislative, and company requirements.
Requirements
  • Initiative and Problem-Solving: Ability to work to own initiative.
  • Health and Safety Qualifications: Health and Safety qualifications.
  • Driving Licence: LGV Driving Licence (or prepared to undertake fully funded training to achieve this).
  • Management Experience: Previous management experience.
  • Knowledge of Legislation: Knowledge of existing and upcoming environmental and health and safety legislation.
  • Geographical Knowledge: Geographical knowledge of the contract area.
