Aconbury 1 & 2 is a specialized 20-bed cardiology unit dedicated to the care of patients with acute health conditions.

The responsibilities of this role encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization within the ward.
  • Managing meal service, including ordering, serving, and clearing.
  • Ensuring proper cleaning and upkeep of equipment.
  • Overseeing patient belongings.
  • Monitoring ward supplies and inventory.
  • Welcoming and assisting visitors.

This vital position requires the ability to work independently and respond to the dynamic needs of the ward on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be an essential member of the clinical team, responsible for coordinating all patient services and facilities within the ward, ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. The primary focus of this role is to support the delivery of cleaning, catering, and minor maintenance services, along with other designated tasks to meet the individual needs of patients as determined by the ward leadership.

The role involves collaboration with colleagues and performing additional duties as directed by the clinical team to enable nursing staff to focus on direct patient care.

Job Responsibilities

General Duties:

When necessary, greet patients and visitors, fostering positive relationships among patients, staff, and families. Communicate effectively with team members and work collaboratively to maintain high service standards. Recognize and accommodate patients' communication needs.

Coordinate special dietary requirements for patient meals and ensure access to out-of-hours menu information in collaboration with the Catering Department. Liaise with maintenance personnel to ensure equipment functionality. Address individual patient requests as they arise. Organize and update notice boards as needed, ensuring patient information is current and provided when appropriate.

Maintain a high standard of personal conduct and ensure effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team, patients, and families. Serve as a point of contact for ward-based volunteers, providing local orientation and daily guidance.

Take responsibility for personal development, including mandatory training and participation in the Trust Appraisal System. Demonstrate skills and activities to others in similar roles. Ensure adherence to Infection Control Policies and promote the prevention of cross-infection among patients, visitors, staff, and the environment.

Ensure cleaning standards meet established levels and address any deficiencies promptly. Oversee the cleaning of equipment in collaboration with the Infection Control Team and Domestic Team. After patient discharge, ensure bed areas are cleaned and prepared for incoming patients, utilizing the bed space checklist.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential:

  • Prior experience in hospitality, customer service, or a care environment.
  • Experience working within a team setting.

Desirable:

  • Supervisory experience in the NHS or a similar setting.
  • Experience in a housekeeping role.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Basic education to GCSE or equivalent level.

Desirable:

  • NVQ or equivalent in a relevant field. Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
