We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our client's Chassis team based in their state-of-the-art Technology Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading specific projects and components, helping to shape the future of the product portfolio.
The ideal candidate will have experience of defining major components, assemblies, and systems from concept to production, ensuring fulfilment of product attributes and requirements against targets. They will also be able to apply and propagate design and development experience throughout the projects and manage the workload and technical development of a small group of engineers.
The Project Engineer will be responsible for managing key aspects of new model development, including ABS, bodywork, and wheels. They will also be responsible for ownership and coordination of major vehicle development and testing activities, as well as managing a small team of Design Engineers.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering design and specific knowledge of materials, manufacturing methods, and legislative requirements. They will also have extensive experience of creating, checking, and releasing both 2D and 3D technical data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage key aspects of new model development
- Ownership and coordination of major vehicle development and testing activities
- Manage a small team of Design Engineers
- Plan and oversee the delivery of major chassis subassemblies or systems
- Design systems and components for new and updated chassis projects
- Produce good quality 3D CAD models using Creo
- Produce good quality 2D engineering drawings
- Follow and help maintain design, operational, and quality procedures
- Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers
- Manage time and workload effectively
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or related technical discipline
- 6+ years relevant experience in a similar role in automotive/mass production
- Extensive general knowledge of mechanical engineering design and specific knowledge of materials, manufacturing methods, and legislative requirements
- Extensive experience of creating, checking, and releasing both 2D and 3D technical data
- Clear understanding of geometric tolerance and its application
- Extensive knowledge and experience of full product lifecycle, from concept through to production
Desirable:
- Practical experience of vehicle maintenance and preparation
- Some experience in designing to Regulatory requirements as applied to motorcycles
- Past experience in analysis and optimisation of components and subassemblies
