Position Overview: The role available is for a Fixed-term CT1-3 Core Trainee in General Adult Psychiatry, focusing on community-based psychiatric care.


Team Structure: The Kentish Town Core Team operates as a multidisciplinary unit, delivering psychiatric support to individuals facing various mental health challenges, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The emphasis is on assisting patients within community environments.


Responsibilities: You will be expected to participate in the after-hours duty rota, which is resident-based. This includes three Core Trainee after-hours rotas and an additional flexible on-call rota for night shifts. Support will be available from senior trainees and consultants, as well as from the Liaison and Crisis Teams. It is encouraged to utilize the available support during on-call duties.

Clinical Duties: As part of your role, you will conduct thorough assessments of new patients, including evaluations of their physical health, to formulate preliminary diagnoses within two working days of admission. Regular reassessments will be required, with updates provided before each main ward round. You will engage in ward rounds and Care Programme Approach (CPA) meetings, collaborating with primary and secondary care services regarding clients' health issues.


Patient Management: Utilizing the results from clinical assessments, you will ensure effective management of patient care. Under the guidance of a clinical supervisor, you will prescribe appropriate pharmacological and psychosocial interventions and refer patients to other professionals as necessary.


Emergency Management: You may be required to conduct urgent psychiatric assessments during on-call shifts.


Professional Development: Participation in a weekly academic program is encouraged, along with involvement in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and research projects. You will maintain a portfolio for appraisal and may undertake an audit or quality improvement project during your tenure.


Teaching Responsibilities: You will assist in the education of medical students, facilitating bedside teaching and helping them develop their clinical skills through patient interactions.


Communication: Clear and accurate clinical documentation is essential. Regular written reports on patient progress will be communicated to general practitioners and other healthcare professionals involved in patient care.
