At Sense, we offer a variety of support services for individuals with complex disabilities, including residential care, supported living, and day services. We collaborate with numerous local authorities and clinical commissioning groups throughout the UK.
The Financial Operations Specialist will be an integral part of the Finance Team, responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial data through timely and precise recording of financial transactions.
The ideal candidate will manage payment collections, daily cash postings, and inputting data into our computerized accounting system. Additionally, they will proactively engage with funders early in the cash collection process to confirm invoice receipts and address any disputes that may hinder payment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts for trading, ensuring that accruals, prepayments, and adjustments are accurately calculated and recorded, with income imported correctly from other systems and payroll, and invoiced costs accurately reflected.
- Maintain and regularly reconcile trading balance sheet accounts.
- Present financial performance to senior management monthly, providing a comprehensive narrative on significant movements and drivers in relation to budgets and forecasts.
- Conduct independent monthly review meetings with the Director of the service and operational managers, serving as the primary contact to assist budget holders with commercial business, capital, and investment proposals.
- Challenge operational directors and managers to ensure thorough consideration of all concepts prior to making business decisions.
Key Skills and Experience
- Relevant financial qualification such as CCAB, with evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Proven experience as a Finance Business Partner, particularly in retail accounting and working with EPOS systems, along with stock accounting and control experience.
- Experience in developing and monitoring an annual budget in a multi-cost centre environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and external agencies, ensuring consistent achievement of objectives and successful implementation of changes.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with senior management and colleagues across the finance department.
- Comprehensive understanding of management accounting requirements in a retail context, including charity retail accounting, VAT implications for charities, and Gift Aid.
- Familiarity with computerized finance systems such as Sun.
