About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Support Assistant to join our team at Teaching Personnel. As a SEMH Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a full-time position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support to students with SEMH needs, promoting their engagement and participation in education.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher to develop and implement tailored lesson plans, catering to the unique needs of each student.
  • Implement strategies to help students regulate their emotions and behavior, enabling them to access learning opportunities.
  • Work closely with the school's SENCO, teachers, and other support staff to ensure students receive comprehensive care and support.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, helping to build their confidence, self-esteem, and social skills.
  • Support students in overcoming barriers to learning and encourage them to achieve their educational goals.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, preferably in a school or education setting.
  • Demonstrate a calm, patient, and nurturing approach when working with challenging behaviors.
  • Be resilient, adaptable, and possess excellent communication skills.
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs to succeed in education.
  • Be confident in managing behavior and implementing positive behavior strategies.
  • Hold a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
