Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the clinical pharmacy service for inpatients at Kent & Medway NHS & Social Care Partnership Trust. This role will involve managing a team of pharmacists and providing expert advice on prescribing and medicine management services.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Management: Manage the lead clinical pharmacists for inpatient services in the East, North and West Kent locality and support the Advanced CMHT Lead Pharmacist by managing two CMHT Lead Pharmacists.
  2. Operational Management: Take operational responsibility for the safe, secure, effective provision, management and strategic direction of all inpatient medicines management services across the Trust.
  3. Quality and Safety: Ensure a high-quality, clinical pharmacy service is delivered to inpatients and their carers within Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT).
  4. Professional Leadership: Provide professional pharmaceutical leadership and expert advice on all matters relating to prescribing and medicine management services to the Chief Pharmacist, Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Medicines Management team, individual services and clinicians.
  5. Patient Care: Promote seamless and integrated care for patients with mental health conditions, supporting the transition of patients across inpatient and community services so they receive the required level of care to support them in taking their medication safely.
  6. Shared Care: Support the management of shared care, ensuring patients are being monitored and reviewed in line with best practice, evidence and guidance.
  7. Policy and Procedure: Be responsible for policy implementation and staff development relating to medicines management across all the inpatient sites in Kent.
  8. Representation: Represent pharmacy at local governance meetings, including writing medicine management reports for the Drug & Therapeutic (D&T) group and the Clinical Effectiveness and Outcome Group (CEOG) meetings.
  9. Communication: Publish the bimonthly "Medication Matters" newsletter to all staff across the trust, sharing insights on medication-related alerts and errors, and updating staff on new policies and procedures.
  10. On-Call Support: Lead the setup of the pharmacist on-call rota and participate in the clinical on-call pharmacist service as needed.
