Job Summary

As an English Functional Skills Tutor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences to learners, managing teaching and learning in line with our policies and practices, and contributing to the continuous development of our curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences to learners, including initial assessments, identifying individual learning needs, and referring to learning support as appropriate.
  • Manage teaching and learning in line with our policies and practices, ensuring that all teaching and learning activities are well-planned and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of our curriculum, including the development of new courses and programs.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and support to learners, including individual learning plans and progress monitoring.
  • Undertake teaching duties, including lesson planning, delivery, and assessment, as well as maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of learner progress.
  • Monitor learner attendance and punctuality, and take appropriate action as required.
  • Ensure that the progress and achievement of learners is recognized and recorded, including the marking of learner work and the provision of retention and achievement information to the curriculum team leader/manager.
  • Undertake any work required for the accreditation of courses and for the effective organization of examinations and assessments, in consultation with the curriculum team leader/manager and other relevant staff.
  • Comply with safeguarding requirements, including all Health and Safety and GDPR regulations, and be familiar with the procedure to be adopted in case of fire and risk assessment of learning activity in the learning environment.
  • Observe and actively promote equal opportunities policies in the classroom, syllabus, and learning materials, and in all relationships with the Service.
  • Ensure the security of both the classroom and any equipment borrowed or used within the classroom.
  • Attend and contribute to course team meetings, and undertake any other reasonable requests in relation to the teaching program made by the Service.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience of teaching on accredited English Functional Skills courses.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in teaching, preferably in a related industry or sector.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification).
  • Knowledge and training in subject specialism, e.g. PGCE, DET, or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Minimum L2 English and maths qualifications.
Additional Information

This role is subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a DBS check as part of the recruitment process.
