About the Role

A dynamic and inclusive primary school in Kirkby is seeking a dedicated Year 1 Teaching Assistant to support the teaching and learning of young learners. This exciting role involves working closely with the class teacher to provide tailored support to pupils, promoting academic progress and social well-being in line with the school's commitment to providing an engaging and nurturing education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging lessons that align with the Key Stage 1 curriculum.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to pupils, particularly in key areas such as literacy, numeracy, and phonics.
  • Assist in the preparation of classroom resources and help create a welcoming and stimulating learning environment.
  • Support the social and emotional development of pupils by promoting positive behaviour and fostering a caring and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Assist in the assessment and tracking of pupil progress, providing feedback to the class teacher to inform future lesson planning.
  • Support pupils with additional needs, including those with Special Educational Needs, to ensure every child reaches their full potential.
  • Supervise children during break times, lunchtimes, and other school activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and other staff to contribute to the overall well-being and development of the pupils.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within Key Stage 1.
  • A patient, nurturing, and enthusiastic approach to supporting young learners.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • An understanding of the Key Stage 1 curriculum, particularly in literacy and phonics.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils, in line with school policies.
