Job Title: Grinder

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Grinder to join our team at Harland & Wolff. As a Grinder, you will be responsible for preparing and refitting metal components in our shipyard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate grinding tools to remove excess material, smooth welds, and shape metal components.
  • Prepare surfaces for welding, painting, or coating by grinding, sanding, and cleaning as necessary.
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accuracy in grinding operations.
  • Inspect workpieces for defects, imperfections, or irregularities, and make adjustments as needed to meet quality standards.
  • Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and other tradespeople to coordinate workflow and ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Maintain grinding equipment by performing routine inspections, cleaning, and lubrication, and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and regulations at all times to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace.

Requirements

  • Time served grinder either in a shipyard or similar industry.
  • Knowledge and compliance of workplace safety.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Ability to establish an appropriate course of action for self and/or others to accomplish the work.
