About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Private Rented Housing Team at North Somerset Council. The post holder will be responsible for improving housing conditions in the private rented sector, HMO licensing, Caravan Site Licensing, and unauthorised encampments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Improving poor housing conditions in the private rented sector using a range of enforcement options.
  • Assessing housing conditions using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.
  • Inspecting dwellings to identify deficiencies and producing a technical schedule of works.
  • Representing the council at court and tribunal hearings.
Requirements
  • Vocational qualification to at least level 4 in environmental health, housing, or building construction.
  • Experience of improving poor housing conditions in the private rented sector.
  • Certified and experienced in the use of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.
  • Excellent communication skills.
Working Arrangements

This is a temporary post for 1 year, working 37 hours per week. The post holder will be required to visit homes in North Somerset on a regular basis, which could be at short notice.

About You

The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of the private rented housing sector and be able to provide a valid driving licence or alternative suitable method of travel.
