CNC Machine Shop Manager Job Description

BWC Profiles is seeking a highly skilled CNC Machine Shop Manager to join our team in Milton Keynes. As a CNC Machine Shop Manager, you will be responsible for the overall management of our metal fabrication department, ensuring the efficient production of high-quality components.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of shift supervisors and operatives in the Fabrication area, focusing on safety, production, quality, and cost.
  • Assess potential using CAD, simulation, and offline calculation to cost new parts and respond to sales team members with estimated production cycle times.
  • Program CNC machines for new parts using a graphical interface.
  • Oversee trials of new parts and document processing parameters.
  • Manage stocks of cutting tools and other key consumables and request supplies as required.
  • Work with the Quality Manager to establish quality control and packing plans for new parts.
  • Assist with simple CMM inspection and macro programming for routinely inspected items.
  • Lead a team of supervisors and operators, allocating daily/weekly tasks and providing technical input on matters such as tooling selection, processing parameters, work holding, processing sequence, finishing, and packing.
  • Carry out induction training with new starters, staff appraisals, supervisions, and return to work meetings.
  • Ensure the team remains up-to-date with mandatory training and carries out spot checks to ensure quality levels.
  • Organize preventative maintenance and cleaning of machines according to manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Liaise with the Operations Planner regarding planning of jobs and the Operations Planner and Customer Services team in the booking of transport.
  • Book in finished items and issue used materials, requesting raw material from the warehouse as required.
  • Select new plant and equipment and organize repairs/servicing of machines.
  • Build better SOPs and apply lean/six sigma principles.
Requirements:
  • CNC programming (at least using graphical software)
  • Ability to use CAD software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Fusion or similar)
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and manuals
  • Adaptable to change and varying situations
  • Ability to show resilience and a flexible approach
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to deliver hands-on training
  • A high level of computer literacy – CAD, Word, Excel, and manufacturing systems etc.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Management Systems
  • Metal fabrication or CNC machining
  • Cutting tools, measuring instruments, and other ancillary equipment
  • Basic level understanding of G-Code
  • Basic understanding of machine workings i.e. sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics etc.
  • Lean manufacturing training/six sigma experience
  • Previous Management and Leadership experience
Working Hours & Salary:

Our team operates 24/5 from Monday to Friday. You will need to cover 40 hours per week, flexibly at your own discretion, ensuring that you spend some time with the day shift and some with the night shift each week.

Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 depending on experience

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
