StratforduponAvon, Warwickshire, United Kingdom NFU Mutual Full time

Lead Actuarial Consultant

Attractive Compensation Package + Performance Bonus & Comprehensive Benefits

Location: Flexible

  • Be part of a recognized organization - awarded "Which?" Insurance Brand of the Year 2024 and Gallup's Exceptional Workplace 2023
  • Excel in a nurturing and cooperative atmosphere, where your insights and contributions are appreciated, and your achievements are acknowledged
  • Enjoy the flexibility of working remotely up to 80% of your time to maintain a work/life balance that fits your needs

Role Overview:

This is a remarkable opportunity for a Senior General Insurance Actuary to join NFU Mutual and play a pivotal role in steering and executing significant actuarial initiatives within the organization. This position is essential in enhancing NFU Mutual's proficiency to uphold industry-leading practices in actuarial functions while ensuring adherence to both current and forthcoming regulatory standards, as well as fulfilling the requirements of internal stakeholders.

As a Lead Actuarial Consultant within the Actuarial Function team in the Risk Division, you will spearhead the creation and execution of risk-oriented assurance evaluations to guarantee the precision of our vital business computations (e.g., pricing, reserving, capital modeling), supporting our long-term goal of sustainable and profitable growth. Your expertise will be vital in delivering independent expert assessments, pinpointing areas for enhancement, aiding senior management in decision-making, and ensuring compliance with pertinent regulations such as Solvency II.

In this capacity, you will also liaise with professional and industry organizations, as necessary, to ensure that you and your team remain informed about industry best practices and regulatory developments. Acting as the Chief Actuary's representative, you will serve as the technical liaison for external advisors and technical software providers for actuarial modeling.

Providing assurance over actuarial functions and broader risk issues in alignment with company strategy to the satisfaction of senior management and in accordance with regulatory expectations is another critical responsibility. You will also lead, manage, motivate, and mentor junior actuarial personnel, ensuring they comprehend expectations, maximize their contributions to business objectives, and assist them in realizing their full potential.

This role is primarily based in our Tiddington Head Office, just outside Stratford-Upon-Avon. However, we recognize the significance of a positive work-life balance, so to support you in delivering your best, we provide excellent facilities for when you prefer to work in an office setting and support the option to work up to 80% of your hours remotely.

Candidate Profile:

We are looking for a fully qualified Actuary with extensive experience in the general insurance sector, including robust technical expertise in actuarial methodologies for general insurance pricing, reserving, or capital modeling.

With a strong analytical mindset and a proactive approach, you will possess the capability to design and execute assurance evaluations over capital, reserving, and pricing analyses, and to craft impactful reports for senior stakeholders, including risk committees and Board members.

You will be adept at resolving complex business challenges through the effective application of advanced analytical and statistical techniques, combined with your awareness of the latest industry trends in actuarial modeling.

Additionally, you will demonstrate the following competencies:

• The ability to cultivate and sustain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels

• Exceptional communication skills, enabling you to convey complex information clearly to non-technical audiences and navigate challenging discussions with diplomacy and tact

• A proven history of leading, developing, and coaching junior team members.

At NFU Mutual, we promote an inclusive workplace and value the diversity that makes us unique. We celebrate the creativity and innovation that arise from varied perspectives and experiences, sharing a common vision of prioritizing the well-being of our customers and employees.

We acknowledge that some candidates may face challenges during the recruitment process. Therefore, we encourage candidates to discuss any adjustments or accommodations they may require to perform at their best throughout our recruitment process.

We take pride in being a Disability Confident Employer, a Race at Work and Women in Finance Charter signatory, and we welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity, gender, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.

Compensation and Benefits:

Upon joining our team, you can anticipate a supportive culture and an appealing array of rewards and benefits, including:

  • Competitive Salary
  • Annual bonus (up to 25% of salary)
  • Contributory pension scheme, up to 20%, including your 8% contribution
  • 28 days annual leave + bank holidays + buy/sell/save holiday trading scheme
  • A Family Friendly policy that assists you in balancing work and family commitments
  • Private medical insurance + options to include family members
  • Access to savings at High Street brands, travel, and supermarkets
  • £20 contribution to a monthly gym membership – subject to T&Cs
  • Health and wellbeing plan - cashback for dentist, opticians, physio, and more
  • Employee Volunteering - volunteer in the community for one day each year
  • Unlimited access to Refer a Friend £500 bonus scheme
  • Life Assurance cover of 4 x salary
  • Employee discounts of 15% on a range of NFU Mutual insurance policies.
