About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our Knowledge Representation Team at BenchSci. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in evolving our Knowledge Graph, integrating public life science data, and operationalizing production-grade data pipelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scale Data Pipelines: Design and implement scalable data pipelines to enable rapid and reliable data processing.
  • Manage Data Sources: Oversee the management of semi-structured and unstructured biological data sources that contribute to the evolution of our Knowledge Graph.
  • Integrate Public Data: Integrate public life science data into our biological ontology, enhancing the accuracy and comprehensiveness of our Knowledge Graph.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with machine learning engineers, data scientists, and scientists to solve complex data mining and extraction challenges.
  • Lead Technical Initiatives: Take on leadership roles in technical projects and epics, driving the development of innovative data engineering solutions.
  • Design Scalable Solutions: Design and implement testable, scalable solutions to complex problems using the latest frameworks and tools.
  • Define Best Practices: Contribute to the definition and application of best practices for a broad platform of technologies in a cloud-based environment.
  • Write Engineering Proposals: Develop and review engineering design proposals in accordance with BenchSci's engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to Team Processes: Participate in sprint planning, task estimation, and code review, contributing to the team's processes and improving overall efficiency.
  • Work in Agile Teams: Collaborate with agile teams of talented engineers to solve interesting data problems and drive innovation.
Requirements
  • Education: Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience as a professional data engineer in industry.
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in Python coding and type system, SQL (GQL, PostgreSQL, and BigQuery), and cloud development (GCP and Terraform).
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and experience working in cross-functional teams.
