Position Overview

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is in search of a Senior Speech and Language Therapist to enhance our dedicated Stroke and Neurology Team.

This role offers the opportunity to become part of a supportive and established integrated therapy service, collaborating with seasoned professionals. The position will primarily focus on the Acute Stroke Unit, where you will engage with a cohesive and innovative multidisciplinary team. Your contributions will be vital in assisting patients facing intricate communication and swallowing challenges, thereby elevating their care and enhancing their overall quality of life. Our philosophy centers around person-centered care and fostering self-management.

Key Responsibilities

Execute specialized evaluations and implement evidence-based interventions for individuals experiencing stroke-related communication and swallowing issues. Collaborate effectively within the multidisciplinary stroke team to provide integrated care, ensuring seamless communication and continuity across various services.

Offer clinical leadership as part of a team of experienced senior Speech and Language Therapists working within specialized areas, including Health Services for Elderly People, General Medicine, Head and Neck Cancer, Voice / ENT, and Critical Care / Respiratory.

Engage in videofluoroscopy and FEES services to deliver thorough dysphagia assessments and rehabilitation. Provide expert guidance, training, and support to patients, their families, and healthcare professionals regarding the management of speech, language, and swallowing disorders. Participate in clinical supervision, ongoing professional development, and research initiatives to enhance clinical skills and service quality. Ensure adherence to clinical governance frameworks, health and safety regulations, and safeguarding policies.

This role is instrumental in supporting the service to uphold its SSNAP standards, collaborating closely with other therapy specialties and stakeholders. The team maintains strong connections across the North Central London stroke network, including local ESD, community, and rehabilitation services.

Qualifications & Experience

Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy Registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a speech and language therapist Completion of certificated graduate courses or equivalent in-house training in clinical specialty areas Membership in a special interest group
