Biomedical Scientist Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Biomedical Scientist to join our team at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a clinical diagnostic reporting service for cervical cytology samples, working closely with Consultant Pathologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest quality of care for patients.
Key Responsibilities- Provide specialist expert interpretative skills to the training of Cytology staff.
- Assist the Cervical Screening Provider Lead to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the screening programme linked to the laboratory.
- Attend MDT meetings and contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to cervical screening.
- Work with colleagues to ensure that the quality of services provided to GPs and other sample takers meets quality standards.
- Assist with the mandatory audit of cervical cancers as outlined in NHSCSP Publication 28.
The ideal candidate will have a BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent, be currently registered with the HPC, and hold a NHSCSP Certificate of Competence in Cervical Cytology. They will also have extensive knowledge of the principles and practice of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme, as well as experience in cytology practice underpinned by theoretical and practical experience.
