Job Purpose:

Cottrell Moore Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Management Accountant to play a pivotal role in our financial and accounting processes. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for preparing the management accounts, including the month-end accounting process, and analysing financial information to enable informed decision-making.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain financial policies in collaboration with the Head of Finance.
  • Combine accounting expertise with effective management and communication skills to support financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Analyse business performance and provide insights to help prevent problems and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Contribute to the improvement of value across the business by managing and reducing operational and production costs, and implementing effective strategies.
  • Prepare financial statements, including:
    • Monthly management accounts
    • Profit and loss accounts
    • Budgets
    • Cashflows - reporting and forecasting
    • Variance analysis and commentaries
    • Preparation of statutory accounts and support for audit files
    • Accountable for the reconciliation of control accounts and general ledger entries
    • Oversee payroll submission to the payroll team
    • Manage Accounts Assistants and Credit Controller, including day-to-day communication, motivation, succession planning, and performance management
    • Conduct continuous reviews of working accounting practices and processes to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations
    • Participate in other ad-hoc projects as required to support the Head of Finance

Person Specification:

  • Xero experience is desirable but not essential.
  • At least 5 years of people management experience, with a personable, positive, and can-do attitude.
  • Able to train and mentor individuals developing their accounting careers.
  • Proven technical ability with a strong commercial acumen.
  • Understanding of modern management information systems.
  • Invoice discounting experience is desirable.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to organise and manage workload to meet tight reporting deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a confident and experienced people manager.
  • Qualified in CIMA, ACCA, or ACA, or experienced at this level without qualifications, with at least 5 years of experience.

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 5:00. Flexible hours of work may be considered for the right candidate, as long as they are available to work Monday through to Friday.
